The word "home" in real estate

Home is such an important word in real estate and to each of us. It means so much more than its literal meaning. From the dictionary it is described as "a dwelling place, a retreat, a place of residence or a refuge. It also means your native place or your own country. Principal bases of operations or the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered."

Home is very personal. I have often had clients walk into a home and just love the energy or the feeling. They are attracted by the state of presence left by someone else. Even the word housing is a personal term. We use the term affordable housing, housing projects or housing bubble.

And of course the idioms that reflect our endearment to the word home include:

Make yourself at home
She has a way of making everyone feel at home.
Finally the decision brought it home to me.
If we finish that in time we will be home free.
He did something that he can write home about.
She is really at home in her profession.

So as I ponder the nuances of the English language I realize as real estate representatives we truly want to make you feel at home. We want to find you the home of your dreams. We will treat your home as if it were our own.
